If you’d have asked me three years ago who were the next R&B stars to blow, 19 year old Mishon Ratliff would have not been far from the top of my list, coming out with hit after hit such as Girlfriend Ringtone, Just A Kiss, Excuse Me Mama and Turn It Up. However, somewhere along the line, something didn’t quite click or someone didn’t quite do what they were supposed to and his campaign got put on the backburner.
Fast forward to 2013 and he’s back with a brand new mixtape “The Gift“, of which “Overtyme” is the lead single. His sound has certainly matured but what’s even more refreshing about this is that he’s stayed true to his R&B roots without compromising any of his relevancy or appeal. Speaking of the record, Mishon revealed:
This is the song that finally pays homage to our mothers, our wives, our girlfriends, our soldiers and female leaders that put in the extra work that it takes for our smiles, our survival and our success. Those who GO HARD day in and day out doing whatever it takes to put food on the table or to take their positioning, lives or companies to the next level. ‘Overtyme’ is the new anthem for every girl, young lady or woman that has made a sacrifice for the greater good of the ones they LOVE. I wrote and produced this song to personally show his appreciation for what may otherwise go unnoticed. Ladies, If you ever thought about giving up, DON’T, your strength has an everlasting effect on us.
