Now a year on from him becoming one of the most hyped up new names in hip-hop, I still haven’t made up my mind as to whether or not I’m a fan of gold toothed, Harlem hailing rapper/fashionista ASAP Rocky and when his album leaked a month prematurely, I must admit I wasn’t particularly interested and still haven’t heard it to this day, as the one song that I had been looking forward to hearing had vanished. That song of course was “I Come Apart”, featuring Florence Welch a.k.a. the Florence in Florence and The Machine. After all, if Florence (being one of the most successful current musicians in the world and to my knowledge being someone who has never previously collaborated with a rapper on a studio track) saw enough in him to feature on his album, then I must be missing something, right?
However, it turns out that the track does exist and will be appearing on the album, but only as a bonus track on the deluxe version. Here it is and it certainly does deliver, with Rocky opting for a Kid Cudi-esque style and Florence’s ever-great vocals adding a much more chilling, distant mood to the song. Check it out below, let me know your thoughts and “Long Live A$AP” hits stores on the 15th.
Love or hate him, you’ve got to commend Rocky for pulling this one off (as I said, I’m pretty sure he’s the first rapper to officially collaborate with Florence, not including Dizzee Rascal who’s collaboration was just a live mash-up of their own respective songs) and I think it’s fair to say that this has to be 2013’s most interesting musical hook up so far!
