Why Lady Gaga Won’t Be Appearing On Kendrick Lamar’s “good kid, m.A.A.d city”
As far as hip-hop goes, I think it’s fair to say that Kendrick Lamar’s debut major label album “good kid, m.A.A.d city” has been the most highly anticipated release of 2012.
In the run up to its October 22nd release date, one of the main talking points of the album has been a collaboration with Lady Gaga, which was only announced a couple of weeks ago. However, when the pre-order hit iTunes, the track that was dubbed to feature Gaga, ”Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”, was still there and still track number 2 as it was on the provisional tracklisting, but appeared to be Gagaless.
When quizzed about her omission on Power 105.1′s Breakfast Club yesterday morning, Kendrick was distinctly vague:
“Me and Lady Gaga, we really good friends. She’s not on the album. We got some records, but when I was breaking down the bulk of the album, the ones we picked, we set them aside for future reference.”
However, Gaga also decided to open up on the matter, revealing that it was in fact the direction that Kendrick’s team wanted to take the record that made her withdraw her feature:
“When I collaborate with an artist I work solely with them, not with their camps or management. It’s purely organic and creative. I love Kendrick dearly as a friend, but was not willing to compromise musically to the changes his team was making to my music. This is why I am not on his record. I have a very specific vision as a producer and songwriter, and I always have. That song will be released at a different time, for a different project. I love you, and think you should check out his stuff because he is truly great. He’s a good kid, its just sometimes a mad city.”
Although it does clear some things up, her statement also confuses the matter even more, as she says the record “will be released at a different time, for a different project”, even though as I said previously, the song that was dubbed to feature her in the provisional tracklisting is still on the album, but without her. When the collaboration was first revealed though, Gaga did say it was called ”PARTYNAUSEOUS”, so perhaps there is more than one track that we’re talking about, or “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” had nothing to do with her in the first place and her inclusion was just a typo.
