What Is Trap Music? – A Documentary By LiveMixtapes

Over the last few months, the underground music world seems to have gone trap music mad but it had left me confused: I’d always known trap music to be a type of gritty Southern hip-hop, the best, most popular example I can think of being all of Lex Luger’s productions, but all this so called trap music that’s been blowing up as of late has been embraced predominantly by suburban British I’m-too-cool-for-mainstream kids and if anything, I could only describe it as dubstep without the actual dubstep.

However, this documentary put together by LiveMixtapes has cleared one main thing: they’re both actually the same thing. I can’t see the whole EDM trap fad lasting any longer than a couple of years, but it certainly hasn’t peaked yet so take a watch below.

What I will say though is that America has never really got electronic music. Over the past 10 years, they’ve taken so many different forms of European electronic music and ultimately morphed them into something worse, nine times out of ten totally missing the point of what made people in Europe love it in the first place so if anything, this could just mark end of a full cycle of the whole “EDM” phenomenon just return back to hip-hop, which is what America knows and does best.

What do you think?
