Starboy Nathan – Dark Room
What he arguably lost in dignity by entering the X Factor, Starboy Nathan certainly gained in buzz and upon failing to reach the live finals of the show, he’s wasted no time in capitalising on his new found interest and put out a brand new track for his fans titled “Dark Room”.
The song follows no real format and describes Nathan’s trials and tribulations since coming into the music industry and interestingly, uses the flows and melodies of a selection of Drake songs including “Marvins Room” and “Headlines” (as well as those of his UK counterparts including Tulisa, Dappy and Wretch 32).
It’s not one of his best songs, but he gets a lot off his chest and I’m assuming it was intended more to have the same effect as a rap freestyle, rather than a complete, structured song and hopefully marks a transition to bigger, better things for the 25 year old South Londoner.
It’ll be interesting to see where Nathan goes from here and for his sake, I hope he does capitalise on the situation he’s in right now as he has all eyes on him and people are ready and waiting to be proved wrong, but if what he does from now on is below par, rather than just going unnoticed, he really will fall into ridicule and there will be no way back.
