Plan B ft. Labrinth – Playing With Fire
Over the past couple of years, multi-instrumentalist, super-producer and singer Labrinth and rapper turned soul singer turned actor, director and then rapper again Plan B, aka Ben Drew, have been two of the biggest and most deserved success stories in UK music.
Now, as part of Plan B’s new album “iLL Manors” which serves as the soundtrack for his movie by the same name, the pair have come together on a brand new track “Playing With Fire”, that pushes both of their boundaries musically, whilst demonstrating exactly why both are at the heights they are at today. It’s a social commentary by Drew of a youth growing up in “Broken Britain”, very reminiscent of his “Who Needs Action When You Got Words” era but stepped up a level, over an intense guitar laced Labrinth beat, broken up by a very raw, rocky hook from Lab too.
Too often when two huge artists come together, it’s a disappointment but as far as these things go, I think it’s fair to say that this one is a as close as it comes to a modern masterpiece.
“iLL Manors”, the album and movie, are out now.
