Just days after Kendrick Lamar put out a public appeal to Janet Jackson for her to star in the video for “Poetic Justice”, his Drake assisted “good kid, m.A.A.d city” album cut dedicated to her starring role in the 1993 movie by the same name, Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip have hopped on the beat, taking it to the next level and reminiscing on their past experiences shooting with Janet.
Q-Tip takes it back to 1993 and starring as Janet’s boyfriend in “Poetic Justice” itself, at which Busta expresses his jealousy at and takes a verbal trip down memory lane to he and her’s Hype Williams directed shoot for their 1998 hit “What’s It Gonna Be?!“. The song really is quite a special moment for both of them so take a listen below and here’s what Busta himself had to say about it:
“At this stage in my career, I ain’t really gotta do nothing but be brutally honest in reference to being connected with the fans and also connected with my peers. At the end of the day, that record was about my experience with Janet when we did our video, when we did the the record we she featured on for my Extinction Level Event project in ‘98. And just my honest emotion when I experienced that… and encountered that phenomenal moment, rockin’ with Janet. I just wanted to be sincere and honest with it, and just share it with the generation that wasn’t around to actually experience the “peak” hour of that moment when it first came.”
Busta Rhymes, Reek Da Villain and J Doe’s brand new “Catastrophic” mixtape is out now.
