Big Boi ft. Kelly Rowland – Mama Told Me
Fresh from its Funkmaster Flex radio premiere last night, we now have the full untagged CDQ version of Big Boi’s new single and here it is! When I first saw that the pair had collaborated, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect in terms of sound but I had a feeling that whatever they did, it was going to be something a bit different and sound great, and I was right.
Originally debuted a couple of months back at a live show as a collaboration with Little Dragon, the beat has a very funky, retro, almost cartoon like vibe to it and when you throw in Big Boi’s 90s flow and Ms Kelly’s bubblegum vocals, you’ve pretty much got the recipe for a pop masterpiece.
Take a listen to “Mama Told Me” below and although an Outkast comeback probably isn’t on the cards anytime soon, Big Boi’s new LP “Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors”, of which this is the lead single, is slated for release on November 13th and we have a promised Andre 3000 album also in the works, although I’m not too sure that will ever materialise!
